Mexico aims to cut drug route to the US

Mexico's war on its drug cartels is to stop gangs using the country as a major trafficking route, even if that means simply displacing the illegal industry to another country.
Mexico's drug battle is nothing new in the Americas. In the 1970's cocaine production exploded across Colombia and drugs were trafficked by water to the US.
With Washington's help, Bogotá was able to cut off the direct distribution by pipeline from Colombia to Florida
But as Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman reports, the problem was not eradicated.
