Canadian photo journalist lets street kids of Rio
6th May 2009 |
Her pictures of street children show the harsh reality of street life in Rio de Janeiro. For the Canadian photo journalist Chantal James this is the way to draw the attention to these futureless youngsters who dont exist in society. She came to Rio a few years ago to write a report on these forgotten children for her magazine La Rampa. Despite the inconsolable misery Chantal fell in love with the city and decided to stay. The street kids of Ipanema were her first friends. Chantal lets them be themselves in front of the camera, as a child and as a human being. In her solitary struggle she succeeds in making her children visible to the outside world. I believe I can really make the difference with my work here.
