Maathai calls for common front on climate
6th November 2009 |
Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai says she is optimistic that Africa will form a common agenda on conservation and rehabilitation of forests issues ahead of the Copenhagen Climate Change conference.
Speaking on Friday morning at a seminar to forge the way forward for Kenya ahead of the conference, Maathai cautioned the government to re-address the Shamba system which is the biggest barrier to conservation of forests before going to seek donor aid in restoring forests. However, the UK government is now saying there may be no new legally binding climate treaty this year.
