Do you go for a walk every day? Every few days? You can do something for the earth while you enjoy your walk.

Just pick up the small bits. You know what I mean, the little stuff we see and ignore, mostly plastic, rubber, or paper. Bottle caps, hair ties, shattered ink pens, drink straws, clear plastic wrapper bits, mylar, and many other items that have been broken down, remain on earth's surface for years.

These little pieces of plastic carry such toxins as dioxin, nickel, toluene, benzene, ethylbenzene, ethylene oxide, phthalates, epoxies, DEHA (di-2-ethylhexyl-adipate), and Bisphenol A (BPA), which rapidly biodegrads into the environment.  We let them erode into the food chain, leaching plastics that we know are harmful, directly into lawns, groundwater, and water collection through street gutters and other sources.

Picking up small bits of plastic may not seem like much, but we should count these bits as being part of the 13 million tons of toxic chemicals that are being released upon our planet. Find a little bag or something to put them in, inside your pocket, then deposit them in the proper receptacle when you get home.

At least if they go to the garbage collection areas, they might at least be corralled, instead of leaving their trail of toxins across your neighborhood. It's up to everyone to do anything they can. It's all our earthly 'neighborhood', and small bits help.

I cleaned this up after I took this picture.
