CSRminute: NFL Player Teams Up with OpenSky to Benefit After School All-Stars; Ethical Corporation Issues New Business Sustainability Report
7th July 2010 |
Hello, I’m Gretchen Siegchrist, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Wednesday, July 7th:
Shaun Phillips, a member of the National Football League’s San Diego Chargers, has teamed up with e-commerce firm OpenSky to create an online store to benefit after-school programs. The store will offer only one product: Phillips’ favorite peanut butter, Nuttzo. Phillips hopes to persuade his 360,000 Twitter followers to buy jars, raising $5 per unit sold for After School All-Stars, an organization that provides after-school activities for 80,000 kids nationwide each year. OpenSky’s platform helps celebrities who want to start charitable e-commerce projects.
A survey conducted by Ethical Corporation has found that 99 percent of corporate sustainability managers see water becoming a top priority for businesses in the next 5 to 10 years. The report, “Unlocking the Profit in Water Savings,” found that 52 percent of sustainability managers ranked water stewardship in the top five most important issues they now deal with. The survey included data from multinationals Unilever, Kraft, Coca-Cola, and Shell, and concludes that many companies were surprised by the amount of savings from water use reduction, efficiencies that outperformed estimates after water saving conservation projects were put into practice.
