Sunrise Off Grid
Project summary:
Plans for transitioning to a greener more holistic future are underway with ‘Sunrise Off Grid’, returning to a field near Glastonbury from 19th-22nd August 2010. Produced by the team behind the Sunrise Celebration, ‘Off Grid’ is a training camp, with four days of essential practical information on off grid living, learning skills and sharing ideas.
Many groups in the south west will converge at Off Grid including experts in the fields of Permaculture, Off grid living, Eco building, Land and Food, Renewable Energy and Earth Energies, all wrapped up with some movement, games, meditation, song and great music.
“We face a conundrum in our existence on this planet, never before in the history of our species have we consumed so much. We would need 3 planets to satisfy our needs if everyone in the world consumed like we do in Somerset.” Says organiser Dan Hurring,
“We organise Off Grid, now in its second year, because we believe it to be really important. To meet and share in the responsibility we have with this mission of transitioning to a more sustainable future is not only helpful, it is essential. And importantly so we, personally, can get access to the kind of information we need to start living the way we want to.”
“We can change and live in harmony with this planet and it will be exciting, we have everything we need. Do you want to know what you can do? Come and join us at Sunrise Off Grid”
There will be an in depth course in living off grid with four modules available each day including how to harvest rain water, process gray water, work a 12volt battery system, make herbal medicine and there will be experts to quiz on topics such as which form of power generation to use, eco building and growing your own food. Whether you want to green up your house, convert a caravan or build yourself a low impact home, there will be valuable information for you. The Off Grid course will take place in the Transition Tin Village, a micro transition community that powers itself and collects and processes its own water. The Tin Village will also house where the Sustainable Communities hub and the post economic exchange which will be discussing options and alternatives to the present monetary system.
Exploration in to our shamanic relationship with the earth and earth energies will take place in the Avalon rising/ Ancient futures area with a cinema showing some of the most cutting edge, inspirational films and ideas with a trance dance on Saturday night.
A Solar powered stage will host an awesome line up of live music with folk, gypsy, jazz, blues, reggae in the evening with a inspiration array of headline speakers in the day time. Meditation, psychic exploration and healing will be found in the well being area along with many opportunities to dance sing and celebrate our potential. The theme of the event is self-responsibility, and organisers hope to inspire and empower participants into reclaiming responsibility for their lives and their own communities.
Off Grid is ideal for families with children of all ages with a safe intimate environment and a wide range of activities both fun and educational, including bush craft, puppet making, and team games.
