Clash of the docs
It’s a good week for TV documentaries, but it’s a pity that so many clash because programmers consider the 9pm spot so crucial.
On Sunday, for example, Mark Zuckerberg: Inside Facebook, is particularly interesting when it ponders on the site's marketing potential, but it’s on at the same time as The Interrupters: How to Stop a Riot, a brilliant documentary about a group of people try to stop conflict developing from confrontations on the streets in Chicago. Both start at 9 o'clock, and that's also the starting point for Black Mirror: the National Anthem, a dark, fascinating-looking satire.
And on Wednesday, another excellent documentary, Inside Job, about the financial meltdown, clashes with the last instalment of Frozen Planet - the one in which Attenborough finally talks about climate change and which will therefore not be screened by stations in several countries, including the US. The BBC sold the series with the climate change programme as an "optional extra" rather than as part of the package.
Fortunately, in these straightened times, everything is repeated more frequently these days so there’ll be chances to catch up on the programmes you miss.
