In the maelstrom of the 2012 meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, it would have been easy to miss one really significant presentation. To a small group in the Ideas Lab, the CEO of Picarro, Michael Woelk, demonstrated a new technique that will prove a game-changing tool for climate campaigners. He showed how it is now possible to measure the precise greenhouse gas emissions from any city or any industrial plant - and do so in real time.

And his test case was Davos itself. The Forum claimed to be the greenest ever, and now it was possible to put their claim to the test. What did his measurements show?
